The Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO, Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. U.G Danbatta received award for best Telecom Man of the year 2018 at the awards night organized by the Nigerian Tech Innovation and Telecoms Awards on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki in Lagos.

The new Director of Public Affairs of the NCC, Mr Nnamdi Nwokike, received the award on behalf of Prof Danbatta. The NCC also carted home 2 other significant awards:

1. Special Recognition for Promoting Broadband Penetration. This reflects the top most item of the 8-Point Agenda of Management which is to Facilitate Broadband Penetration, in line with the National Broadband Policy (NBP) of the Federal Government 2013- 2018. NCC is championing the drive of Broadband penetration in the country where it has already reached 22% of its 30% Broadband penetration target before the end of 2018. The NCC has already licensed six of the seven Infracos companies expected to provide Broadband infrastructure for the deployment of Broadband services in the different Zones of the country.

2. Best Public Sector Website of the year (2018).

The Nigeria Tech Innovation and Telecoms Awards (NTITA) jointly organized by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), is likened to the “Oscars” of the Nigerian Telecommunication industry is the most celebrated industry awards which has grown to be one of the most recognised events in the ICT and Telecoms Industry attracting top decision makers in the sector.
