NCC participated in the Ministry of Communications 2018 Ministerial Retreat, held at the Dr. Olusegun Aganga Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State from May 25 - 26, 2018.

At the event, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, represented by Mr. Sunday Dare, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders’ Management (ECSM) delivered a presentation on the Implementation of Telecoms Related Goals in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

Mr. Sunday Dare highlighted the achievements of the Commission in line with the principles and objectives of the ERGP and ICT Roadmap. He further stated that the Strategic Vision Plan of the Commission is articulated to fast track development of the industry within the context of the 8- Point Agenda.He noted that the Commission has facilitated the growth of broadband penetration, an epicenter of growth restoration principle of the ERGP, from well over 17% to 23% with the hope of meeting the 30% target of the National Broadband Plan(NBP) in 2018.

Mr Dare pointed out that the Commission has licensed Infracos for deployment of fiber infrastructure in order to ensure pervasive access to the internet. He noted that compliance monitoring and enforcement are aggressively carried out by the Commission to ensure the goals of government (ERGP & ICT Roadmap) vis-a-viz NCC, are achieved.

The ECSM was swift in highlighting the efforts of the Commission in ensuring effective industry Corporate Governance. According to him, the Communications Industry Code of Corporate Governance has been developed, launched and made a mandatory by the NCC.

Mr Dare emphasized the three As: Accessibility, Availability and Affordability, as the tripod upon which the Commission's Strategy of ensuring Universal Access Service is anchored.
