Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi is the Executive Commissioner (Stakeholder Management) of the Nigerian Communications Commission, confirmed by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 29th of July 2010.
A management and financial expert, Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He worked for Catenation Incorporated (a financial consulting company in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA), before returning to Nigeria in 1988. Between 1988 and 1995, Mr Itanyi worked for the International Merchant Bank, Diamond Bank and Commercial Trust Bank all in Victoria Island, Lagos. He has extensive experience in Treasury and Corporate banking.
Mr. Itanyi was elected the Deputy Governor of Enugu State for two consecutive terms (May 1999 to May 2007), during which time he contributed immensely to the human and infrastructural development of the State. He made remarkable contributions towards State Security, Stakeholders’ Engagement & Management as well as promoting National Development. Prior to becoming the Deputy Governor, Mr Itanyi was elected to represent Igbo-Etiti East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly in 1997.
An effective team player, Mr. Itanyi was voted the best and most loyal Deputy Governor of his time by many independent organizations including the 1st Mandate Communications as well as the Maritime Media both in Lagos. Prior to that, in 1986, he was honoured with the "Pace Setter" Award for outstanding leadership by the Ohio State University. He is also a recipient of Paul Harris International Fellow Award for distinguished service to humanity.
Mr. Itanyi is currently working on his Doctoral Degree thesis in Business Management at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. His research interest includes human capital development, decision making process, organizational alliance, financial project management, corporate governance and corporate strategy.
Until his appointment as the Executive Commissioner (Stakeholders Management), Mr Itanyi has successfully directed various financial, investment and property development companies including Duke Brothers Limited, Valuehouse Limited, Rockcastle Limited and Wata Resources Limited.
